The brief
Two buyers in the same week. One from the Federated States of Micronesia, looking for budget-tier auto parts and used-vehicle trade options. One from Peru, focused on commercial vehicles for a specific freight application.
Two very different markets. Two very different price points. Two very different definitions of “good enough.”
What we did
I treated them as separate engagements that happened to overlap. Each got their own supplier shortlist, their own factory visits, and their own briefing on what kind of Chinese vendor would actually serve their market reality.
For the Micronesian buyer, the right supplier wasn’t the largest factory — it was the one comfortable with smaller container loads, mixed SKUs, and the realities of small-island logistics. For the Peruvian buyer, commercial-vehicle specs and after-sales support across Latin America were the deciding factors, narrowing the field considerably.
I learned about Micronesia in the process — a country I hadn’t worked with before, with its own traditional festivals and customs. That kind of curiosity is part of why I do this work.
Outcome
Both buyers left with viable supplier shortlists matched to their actual market, not a generic “best Chinese supplier” recommendation.
The Micronesian buyer is still in early-stage discussions, evaluating logistics. The Peruvian buyer moved to detailed spec negotiation within two months of the visit.
Customer names, volumes, and specific supplier names withheld.
