Go through the exhibitor list in advance, mark the companies that interest you, and note down their booth numbers. Add them to your personal to-do list and plan your daily routes accordingly.
However, leave some flexibility in your schedule for “random exploration.” Wandering through the fair without a strict agenda often leads to unexpected discoveries — innovative products, hidden gems, or potential partnerships you hadn’t planned for.
Building connections: bring enough business cards and use social tools wisely
At its core, a trade fair is a filtering mechanism — it gathers high-quality business professionals who take their work seriously. Whether they’re organizers, exhibitors, or international visitors, most have invested significant time and resources to be there.
That’s why you shouldn’t waste this unique opportunity to expand your business network. Bring plenty of business cards (at least 100 per day — you’ll thank yourself later). Distribute them freely, exchange company profiles, add contacts on social media apps, join networking events or forums, and engage in deep conversations with exhibitors.

A short pencil is better than a long memory
There’s a Chinese proverb that says, “A short pencil is better than a long memory.” It emphasizes the importance of taking notes — and this couldn’t be truer for the Canton Fair.
Recording information during the fair may feel tedious or unnecessary in the moment, but you’ll be immensely grateful afterward. With thousands of booths and endless conversations, details fade quickly.
Use technology to simplify this process: a smart recorder with AI transcription or translation, or note-taking apps. Of course, traditional business card organizers work well too. Whatever the method, documentation matters no less than attending the fair itself.
Beyond the fair: stay energized and explore
While the Canton Fair is the main event, Guangzhou itself offers an incredible opportunity to experience new environments, cuisine, and culture. Don’t miss the chance to explore the city’s restaurants, museums, music venues, parks, and local neighborhoods.
Good food nourishes the body and mind; good accommodation ensures you rest well for the next day’s meetings. Finding the right balance between comfort and budget is key.
